Maker Space & Bench Rental in Cornwall

Wood.ED Joinery & Academy offers bench rental and maker space in a professional joinery workshop in Perranporth, Cornwall for trained carpenters, bench joiners, furniture makers and emerging craftspeople who need the space, machinery and support to develop their work. Whether you are building a portfolio, taking on your first commissions or growing a small woodworking business, our workshop provides a practical alternative to setting up your own premises from day one.

With dedicated bench rental, access to workshop machinery, office facilities and communal support, Wood.ED is designed to help bridge the gap between training and self-employment in a safe, professional and encouraging environment.

Bench Rental at a Glance

Who Bench Rental Is For

Our maker space is intended for people who already have a foundation in carpentry, bench joinery or furniture making and want access to a professional workshop environment to continue developing their craft.Bench rental may be suitable for

  • students completing recognised carpentry, bench joinery or furniture-making training

  • recent graduates building confidence and practical experience

  • newly self-employed makers taking on client work

  • furniture makers and joiners who need workshop space and machinery

  • skilled makers looking for a professional base to develop projects or grow a portfolio

What’s Included with Bench Membership

Standard bench membership includes access to a fully equipped professional workshop environment and practical facilities to support both making and business development.Membership includes:

  • A dedicated 1800 x 700 workbench with vice and cupboard below

  • Access to the workshop Monday to Saturday, 8.00am–8.00pm

  • Use of your own tools, power tools and materials

  • Access to workshop machinery including:

    • panel sawplaner

    • thicknesser

    • band saw

    • router table

    • spindle moulder

  • Use of Festool Domino tools

  • Starlink WiFi

  • Access to office space and shared desks for preparing quotes, invoices and CAD drawingsUse of a shared printer

  • Shared kitchen and toilet facilities

  • Some on-site parking, with additional parking available on the estate

  • Alarmed premises with CCTV

  • Personal login for remote CCTV access

  • A minimum of one hour of communal consultation per week on the six-month membership plan, usually on Wednesday or Thursday evenings

Bench Rental Rates

Standard Membership

£400 per month

  • Sign up for a minimum of 6 months

  • Pay monthly

  • Bench rental is generally offered on a rolling six-month basis

  • At the end of the term, you will usually retain your bench for a further six months unless agreed otherwise

 

This option is designed for makers who want a regular workshop base to take on commissions, build a portfolio and develop their business in a professional setting.

Day & Weekly Workshop Hire

Short-term workshop hire is also available for non-members.

 

Non-member rates

Day rate: £75

Week rate: £350

​

Short-term hire includes access to the same workshop facilities and machinery as bench membership, subject to the same workshop requirements and competence standards. Tools, materials and personal items should be removed at the end of the day unless consecutive days have been booked.

Workshop Requirements

To keep the workshop safe and practical for everyone using it, the following requirements apply

​

  • Public liability insurance is required for bench rental users

  • Personal tools and equipment are not covered by workshop insurance

  • Insurance can be arranged separately through your own provider

  • Woodworking machine-shop competence is required

  • An induction will be given on the equipment you plan to use
